Your goal is to clear all cards from the tableau by moving them onto the foundation. Golf solitaire has no waste pile like in traditional klondike.
Objective
Move the thirty-five cards that are laid out in seven columns on the tableau onto the foundation. Cards can be moved only if they are one rank higher or lower than the card on top of the foundation.
Card Layout
- The board in Golf consists of three parts:
- Tableau: This is the top part of the screen and is made up of seven columns each containing five face-up cards.
- Foundation: The pile on the bottom right - it's empty at the start of the game and you can move any card you like onto it.
- Stock: The face-down pile on the bottom left. Draw cards from here when you run out of moves. You can only go through the stock once.
Golf Solitaire Rules
A card at the bottom of a column can be removed when it has a value of one lower or one higher than the card currently showing on top of the foundation pile, the suit does not matter.
For example, when the five of Hearts is face up on the foundation, you can play a four or a six of any suit onto it, provided it is the bottom card in a column.
Remove as many cards from the table as you can. When no more cards can be played, turn over a card from the stock to hopefully enable you to continue.
You can only go through the stock once, so when the stock pile is emptied and no more moves are available then the game is over.
This version of the game could be considered easy mode because it allows turning the corner so that a King can be played top of an Ace, or an Ace onto a King. This style of golf is also known as Putt Putt.
Scoring
Just as in the sport of golf where players aim to complete the course with the lowest score, your challenge in golf solitaire is to complete the game in the fewest moves. The best scores make it onto the leaderboard.
Winning Golf Strategy Tips
The entire tableau is face up allowing you to look at your options.
Think two or three moves ahead and avoid moves that isolate cards.
Don't rush through the stock because you only get to cycle through the 16 cards in it once - only draw from it when no tableau moves remain.
Watch for sequences that allows you to uncover as many cards as possible without using the stock.
When there are two equally playable cards, choose the one that frees up more cards or better sequences.
