Double Klondike is basically a two-deck game of classic Klondike Solitaire played with 104 cards. It expands the classic seven-pile tableau into nine piles, offering a larger playfield and greater depth of strategy. Also known as Gargantua, here's how to master it:
Objective
Build eight foundation piles in ascending order by suit, starting with Aces and ending with Kings, by turning and revealing one card at a time from the stock.
Setup
- Decks: Two standard 52-card decks (104 cards total)
- Tableau: Nine columns with a mix of face-down and face-up cards
- Foundations: Eight piles for suit-based building
- Stock: Draw pile for turning over one card at a time
Gameplay Rules
- Move cards in descending order with alternating colors on the tableau.
- Only Kings (or sequences starting with Kings) can be placed in empty tableau columns.
- In this turn 1 version, you turn one card at a time from the stock to the waste pile.
- Cards drawn from the stock pile may be played onto the tableau or foundation.
- Each foundation must be built up by suit: Ace, 2, 3, and so on, until the King.
- Use strategy to reveal hidden cards and manage tableau space efficiently.
Strategy Tips
- Focus on freeing hidden cards early in the game.
- Try to build all foundations evenly to avoid getting stuck.
- Don’t rush stock draws - each card can change your options.
- Undo and restart functions can help test different approaches.
